Yet there is plenty refreshing about Swade G's recent album, Koolaid! Listeners will be taken on a journey through hip-hop history through album tracks such as “Chevy's Hot”, “Fly Like Me” and “I love Hoes”. For seasoned hip-hop connoisseurs, it is easy to pick up on Swade G's respectful nod to famed artists such as Michael Jackson, The Fugees, Ludacris and 50 cent. “Chevy's Hot” samples The Fugees’ 1996 hit, "Ready or Not" while “Fly Like Me” is an unmistakeable throwback to Michael Jackson's 1984 hit, "Somebody's Watching Me". The last track on the album, “I Love Hoes”, is a play on the Ludacris hit, “Area Codes” while sample beats from peers such as 50 cent are also re-interpreted. “Fly Like Me” is reminiscent of the song “This is How We Do” by The Game and 50 cent.

While several of the tracks on Swade G's Koolaid sample tunes from infamous urban songs and artists, it is in no way a tired regurgitation of familiar tracks. Swade G cleverly infuses his own technique and message into each one of his songs with great care and charisma, always careful not to disrespect the artists that he borrows from. The album is masculinity put into its musical form. The lead singer’s low and brooding voice gives this music its mannish edge, while long and zany electric guitar solos make Wanted To Be Alive the classic rock and roll album that it is.

While rock is their predominant choice of genre, these testosterone-fueled musicians have incorporated different styles into the album too. For example, in the song that titled the album itself, Wanted To Be Alive, you’ll hear obvious hints of country, especially through the main chords that carry the song right to the end. You’ll also hear some cool electric sounds from a keyboard that resembles an organ, in Your Heart An’ Soul, giving it a kind of funk feeling.

As you can probably already tell, given its inclusion of new sounds and genres throughout, this album is far from predictable. You could play this album over and over and never get bored.

One of my favourites from Misery, is ‘Attracted;’ a cruisy tune that takes you away to a tropical island. This song brings a bluesy, jazzy feel to the album with cool layered vocals.

The country sound mentioned earlier can be heard in ‘Corina.’ You won’t hear too much of the fast tempo’d guitars and western style vocals usually associated with the genre, but there’s just enough to not sound overbearing, yet still be thoroughly enjoyable. This is accomplished through the cruisy feel that is linked to every song on the album.

Overall, The Devyl Nellys have done an outstanding job in delivering an album that’s lighthearted, up beat and fun, as well as giving it their own unique twist.

The Funkanauts are bringing back the funk into the 21^st century with their radical and psychedelic tunes. My first taste of the reality entertainment catalogue left me salivating as it will any student with a thirst for special interest, esoteric, occult or true knowledge. Reality Entertainment films help you to decode the matrix, with genres ranging from metal to hard core to dance to rock. I love this label.

The film library for Reality is super cool. They have titles all about the Mind, Body & Spirit, Motivational, Sacred Geometry, UFO, Supernatural, Secret Societies, Paranormal, Biography, Science Fiction, Fantasy, History, Crop Circles, Knights Templar, Popular Culture, Synchro-mysticism and the Wisdom Tradition. Reality Entertainment films’ spiritual blend of music and mind-blowing graphics coupled with a finely-crafted scientific scripting filled-to-the-brim with facts offers viewers the “lost key” to the secrets of the ages, that was only briefly introduced in “What the Bleep Do We Know?” and “The Secret”.

Conquest marks the first chapter of Third Estate's concept album The Chronicles of the Four Horsemen and consists of three tasty tracks.

Progressive tendencies and strong production dominate, as these Albury locals push boundaries with a song writing work ethic akin to artists like System of a Down, Porcupine tree and even glimpses of Soulfly. In fact it is the production mindset of Porcupine Tree’s Steven Wilson that is primarily brought to mind when I listen to this self produced little gem. Think sweeping Aussie rock circa late 90’s / early naughties on this one. Thick raucous chunky lead licks played with mammoth conviction of the Giants of Science kind. I don’t know how he does it but Russia’s leading man, Double O, is both smooth and sharp all at the same time.

On their lead single, From Russia With Love, this Melbournian trio have captured the harsh yet seamless, jaggered edges of their sound. Encasing in under three and a half minutes a raunchy tale of seduction that wraps itself around your ears.

From the Outset The Twitch let you know that they have arrived.

This is balls to the wall rock and roll, strong tight musicianship indicating a lot of time transversing the sonic sound-scape together.

These guys know all about rock structure and layered production paying homage to rock gods such as Pink Floyd, The Eagles, Free, Status Quo and Steppenwolf, I even heard elements of Bowie in there.

Great air guitar stuff, The Twitch are a band that would be just as at home pumping a house party or selling out stadium shows.

Peter's Farm

This one’s got everything a good children’s album should have including a narrator with a funny accent, funny voices and funny stories.

The animals on Peters Farm boogie on down to some classic big band swing and rock and roll, a bit of the blues and even some 80’s retro, with strong Australiana themes thrown in for good measure.

Visually strong lyrics coupled with upbeat, playful melodies that are fun by design, bring the world of Peter’s Farm to life.

It gives the oldies a bit of a giggle as well, as memories come flooding back.

A great introduction to the world of music for any infant child.

The Light at the End of the World

This is a relaxing mix of rock and synth pop - some of it is not to cheezy - I stress only some of it!! It's a confusing mix - some of it is really trippy and intresting, while other parts are very cheesy and booooring!!! but it's definatly worth a listen, to at lteast to hear the few good parts.

I think the purple flying monkey on the cover really says it all. I think the green trumpet the monkey is holding sums it up, Mary Jane is flying with the monkey all the way to the Light at the End of the Worlds.

Well here we a have a young handsome man who might just make it to the top. But unfortunately good looks aren’t enough. So it's lucky Jord has a bit of talent under his coat. Sounding a bit like Pete Murray / Ben Harper he blasted himself all the way to number two on the V AIR music charts a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately he's already been blasted right out of the top twenty - good work on the high position and I hope to see Jord up there again very shortly. He also made it to 19 on the ARIA charts. Hi all,

What a great start, I almost posted this and missed the L out of blog in the heading, sure it would have made you all feel warm and fuzzy
It's tough to know how to start one of these things - it's even tougher when I've just comeback from Parklife in Melbourne, great party even better after party.... very sore head.

Here's what to expect from me. I'm gonna tell you all about "the truth" on the music, video and other stuff we have at blue pie and related stores. Every couple of weeks I'll put some sort of poll up to find out your opinions on stuff. I might even let you tell me what you wanna here me rant about - if I'm feeling generous.
